NA Localization: A legendary tactician from ancient China. Born Jiang Shang, he is also known as Shi Shangfu, Jiang Taigong, and Jiang Ziya. One day, he was fishing on the north bank of the Wei River when King Wen of the Zhou dynasty happened by. King Wen realized he had found the sage his father Taigong had been waiting for, and granted him the title "Taigong Wang," meaning "my father's wish."

Taigong Wang was instrumental in King Wen and King Wu's efforts to overthrow the Yin dynasty. He was rewarded for his service with land on the Shangdon peninsula, which he turned into the state of Qi, where he served as ruler during the Spring and Fall Warring States period.

In the Ming period novel "Fengshen Yanyi," or the "Investiture of the Gods," Taigong Wang is depicted as a Taoist practitioner with supernatural powers.

According to Taigong Wang himself, "It's too bad, really. If I'd only been summoned as a Caster, I'd have definitely been Grand Caster."

Fan Translation: A famed tactician from ancient China. His surname is Jiang, given name Shang, courtesy name Ziya or Ya. While fishing on the north coast of the Weihe, a branch of the Yellow River, he met with King Wen of Zhou (Xi Bochang). King Wen declared he was the sage that the previous rulers of Zhou wished for, and accordingly started calling him by the title of Taigong Wang (meaning "my father's wish").

He helped King Wen and his Royal General, putting high effort into toppling the Yin Dynasty. His successes award him the title of Ruler of Qi, making him the founder of the Qi kingdom from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States period. He's also known as Shi Shangfu, Jiang Taigong, or Jiang Ziya.

In the Ming Dynasty novel Fengshen Yanyi, he's portrayed as a Daoist: a being with paranormal abilities.

"Man, what a shame. If I were summoned as a Caster, I'm sure I could have made it Grand Caster.", or so he claims.

○原始兵法:A+
兵法が学問の体系として確立される以前に戦略・戦術を自ら編み出し、駆使した人物が太公望であるという。
武経七書に数えられる古代中国の兵法書『六韜』『三略』を著した、と伝えられることもある。

NA Localization: A tactician and general for the Zhou dynasty, a Taoist practitioner, and a disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun.
As one who seals gods, he played a key role in dispatching a great killer of men and gods in both the human and sage worlds during the chaotic waning days of ancient China's Yin dynasty.

Ultimately, as history tells, he helped King Wen and King Wu overthrow the Yin dynasty by leading their armies as both a Taoist and a tactician.
He was later rewarded for his services by becoming the founder of the state of Qi.

Primitive Tactics: A+
It is said that Taigong Wang devised and utilized tactical strategies before military science was even established as a field of study.
He is also said to be the author of the Six Secret Teachings and the Three Strategies of Huang Shigon, two of China's Seven Military Classics.

Fan Translation: A general and the tactician of Zhou, and a disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun. A Taoist. He carried out a grand deicide (homicide) plot that unfolded in the background of ancient China's Yin Dynasty insurrections, bringing collateral damage to both Xian and human realms. That was the Investiture.

Ultimately, as history tells, he helped King Wen and his Royal General, commanded the troops as a tactician despite being a Taoist, and served the cause of toppling the Yin Dynasty. Later he founded the kingdom of Qi.

•Primordial Military Arts: A+
Taigong Wang is credited with devising and utilizing tactics and strategies before military arts were established as a studiable discipline.
Two out of the Seven Military Classics of ancient China (the Six Secret Teachings and the Three Strategies of Huang Shigong) are authored by him.

NA Localization: Riding Skill: A+
Although Taigong Wang can ride Divine Beast-level Phantasmals all day long, he draws a hard line at dragonkin. "Have you seen those things!? No thank you!"

Fengshen Zhixing: B
Reflects Taigong Wang's role as a god sealer, enabling him to deal lots of damage to both Divine and Demonic enemies.

Thought Keys: EX
Taigong Wang is the disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun, the supreme being of the world of Tao, which makes him an expert Taoist in his own right. Uses Thought Keys, a kind of thought-based magecraft completely unlike anything found in Western magecraft, to perform sage arts and fangshu (i.e. Tao arts).
As a figure from around 1000 B.C., the fact that these Thought Keys can even give Taigong Wang access to the protected memory space mean that they are effectively thought spells from the Age of Gods.

Fan Translation: •Riding: A+
Taigong Wang can freely ride even Divine Beast class species, but when asked about the dragon kind, his answer is "You're asking for too much!"

•Investiture Enforcer: B
His state as the one carrying out the Investiture of the Gods. Super effective against divinity and demonic traits.

•Philosophy Key: EX
Taigong Wang is a disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun, the supreme being in Taoism, therefore, he's a Taoist. He has a Philosophy Key from the Far East's Philosophy Magecraft, which is completely different from Western Magecraft. He uses this Key for what he calls Xian Arts and Fangshi (Tao Arts).

He's a figure from the 1000s BC, meaning he's able to access even the Privileged Domains of the Philosophy Foundations, so the magecraft he uses should be called Philosophy Magecraft from the Age of Gods.

NA Localization: 『Pseudo-Dragon Divine Beast Sì Bú Xiàng』
Rank: A
NP Type: Anti-Army
Range: 1 - 50
Maximum Targets: 600

The Divine Beast Taigong Wang is said to ride in "Investiture of the Gods." Although other sages claim that Sì Bú Xiàng is a dragonkin, Taigong Wang is adamant that he is anything but.
"Come on, you know I would never ride a dragonkin of all things."

A continuously active riding Noble Phantasm that temporarily cloaks the user's mount in a mass of dragon-like magical energy, transforming its appearance and enabling it to take to the skies and lay waste to enemy armies with fiery breath.
While Sì Bú Xiàng does transform and attack in this story, he does not generally make use of the army-annihilating abilities gained from releasing his True Name.

Fan Translation: Nilong Shenshou - Sibuxiang (Dracomorphized Divine Beast - Sibuxiang)
Rank: A
Type: Anti-Army Noble Phantasm
Range: 1-50
Max. Targets: 600 people

A Divine Beast. Taigong Wang's mount in the Investiture of the Gods. The other Xians say our buddy Shibuxiang is a species of dragon, but Taigong's words on the matter are "No way I'd able to ride him if he were a dragon".

He's a constantly active Mount Noble Phantasm. He can cover himself in a gigantic cover of magical energy as dragons do, shapeshift, fly, and sometimes even burn down the enemy troops.
In this game, he does shapeshift and attack but doesn't get to use the Anti-Army Annihilation-level power that comes with his True Name release.

この場合、ライダー太公望は、さも英霊の座から

実際のところどうなのかは……

NA Localization: 『Dǎ Shén Biān』
Rank: EX
NP Type: Anti-Divine
Range: 0 - 90
Maximum Targets: 1 - 800

The God-Striking Whip.
A Noble Phantasm bestowed upon Taigong Wang for his role as a god sealer. It also serves as the source for his Fengshen Zhixing skill.
Apparently, there was once a limit on Taigong Wang's ability to make full use of this Noble Phantasm, but as a Heroic Spirit, that limit seems to no longer be an issue.

Upon releasing its True Name, an enormous Dǎ Shén Biān descends from the skies and pulverizes the enemies in its path. Taigong Wang claims this power is entirely derived from releasing its True Name, but it could also be that he's performing a Xian-level spell by using Thought Keys to temporarily access protected memory space.
Some also suspect that he's borrowing his own power from after he ascended into a Xian himself through his training. If that theory is true, it would mean that Taigong Wang the Rider is actually a Divided Spirit of the original Xian Taigong Wang, despite his claims that he's a Heroic Spirit from the Throne of Heroes.

So, what IS the correct answer? Unfortunately, Taigong Wang refuses to say. It may well be that he doesn't know, either.

Fan Translation: Dashenbian (God-Striking Whip)
Rank: EX
Type: Anti-Divine Noble Phantasm
Range: 0-90
Max. Targets: 1-800 people

The whip to strike gods.
The Noble Phantasm given to Taigong Wang as the one carrying out the investiture of the gods.
This Noble Phantasm is thought to be the source of his Investiture Enforcer Skill. It used to have a limited number of uses, but when manifested as Heroic Spirit, this restriction is apparently gone.

When its True Name is released, a supersized God-Striking Whip falls from the sky, piercing the land along with the enemy. Taigong claims such is the might of a Noble Phantasm called by name, but it's possible that he's unleashing a Shenxian[2]-level magecraft attack by using his Philosophy Key to momentarily connect to the Privileged Domains of his Philosophy Foundation.

Another possibility to be evaluated is that he's borrowing power from his Shenxian self, as he turned into one at the end of his training. If that is actually the case, then Rider Taigong Wang is a Servantfied bunrei of a Shenxian, the original Taigong Wang, just pretending to have come from the Throne of Heroes.

Clear Tunguska Sanctuary
Extra

NA Localization: Taigong Wang materialized in Tunguska eager and ready to face and defeat Daji once again, only to discover that Koyanskaya was actually a completely different person.
How does he feel about that? It's hard to tell, because he refuses to say anything about it. Was he disappointed? Relieved? No idea. His only reaction is to smile ambiguously.
Even when Nikitich urges him to say sorry, he only continues to smile.

   ◆

There are no records of Taigong Wang developing feelings for Daji. We only know that he defeated her and helped overthrow King Zhou of the Yin dynasty, just as portrayed in the "Investiture of the Gods." If one could go back and ask any of Taigong Wang's allies from that time if Daji could have seduced him, they would all surely deny that such a thing was even possible.
And in truth, she didn't seduce him. If anything, Daji downright despises Taigong Wang, and he readily defeated her of his own accord.

"Me, fall for Daji's charms? Of course not. Be careful not to say that around her, or she'll definitely kill you for it.
Still...she was beautiful. That much is absolutely true."

Fan Translation: In his Tunguska manifestation, he was motivated to meet Daji again in his Daji hunt, but to everyone's surprise, Koyanskaya was a completely different person. Taigong Wang didn't express any opinions about it. He didn't say if he was disappointed or relieved. All he had was an ambiguous smile. Nikitich pressed him to apologize for his mistaken conjecture, but he stayed resolutely smiling without a word.

The past contains no records of a romance between Taigong Wang and Daji. As told in The Investiture of the Gods, he defeated Daji and brought the Yin Dynasty to the end of its days. All companions fighting alongside him would unanimously say the thought of Daji seducing Taigong is not plausible.
They're correct, she didn't seduce him. On the contrary, Daji hated him, and he ultimately defeated her with his own hands.

"Seducing me? No, she'd never. She'd kill you if she ever heard you say that. It's just that, you know... She was beautiful. That's the one undeniable fact."

A Chinese Taoist, famous from a certain manga...er, a classic novel. Never opens his eyes, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's a shady character. He loves to fish and is good with animals. He seems to be especially interested in Tamamo-Type Servants.

  1. Obvious equivalent to "no use crying over spilled milk". The story behind it is that back when he was just Lu Shang, he had a wife named Ma Shi. Since he spent all his time reading instead of working, she got fed up and left to her parent's house. Later he was found by the king and became the super successful Taigong Wang, so his wife tried to reattach the marriage. Taigong spilled a tray of water and said "If you return the water to the tray, I'll accept".
