A senior of the Shinsengumi since their time at Shieikan. He’s a master of his school of swordsmanship Shindō Munen-ryū, the same one as Chief Serizawa Kamo, and was close to Serizawa. He paid respects to the fellow Chief Kondō Isami as a Chief, but insisted on being a comrade in equal terms, not a vassal. This would later become the reason for him to cut ties with the Shinsengumi. At the Ikedaya Incident, he broke in with Kondō, Okita, and Saitō, and kept fighting despite being injured. At the Battle of Toba-Fushimi he charged with one sword as part of a suicide corps in a battlefield with gunfire flying about, making his fighting style earn him the nickname of Shinpachi the Reckless “Gamushin”. Just like Saitō, he’s one of the few soldiers who survived the riots of the Bakumatsu and died of old age, and it’s no exaggeration to say that the records of the Shinsnengumi can be told now thanks to Nagakura’s words. “I won’t forgive those who don’t know about the Shinsengumi and say whatever they want”.

Daring and of pleasant character, compassionate, and admired by soldiers, but because of that, he often causes trouble to his superiors. He insisted on Chief Kondō being in the position of a comrade, and kept disagreeing with being treated as a vassal.
As the Shinsengumi left Kyō and moved from battle to battle to the east, they couldn’t reach an agreement, and after the battle at Kōshū, he parted ways with his friends.
Even now, he wonders again and again whether he was right or wrong back then.
Ordinarily, Servants are summoned with the appearance of their heyday, but Nagakura Shinpachi has two Spirit Origins, one at old age and one as an adolescent.
He won’t acknowledge which one is the real him, he won’t declare which one is the real him, for he holds a serious self-contradiction.
“By the way, Okita and Saitō are Sabers, so why am I a Berserker? Huuuh, ‘cause I’m an idiot? What the hell do you mean?!”

○我武新:A

○ Recklessness: AGamushin. Impulsive, straight-lined thinking without considering the consequences that earned him the nickname of Shinpachi the Reckless. A daredevil and bold fighting style in which he thinks once he jumps in and kills. ○ Battle Ready: CBlasting swordsmanship that raises his spirits to the verge of exploding, and makes them burst in the instant of attacking. What’s with swordsmanship exploding? Although his ability is so remarkable that he has fully mastered Shindō Munen-ryū, his true strength lies in his reckless fighting style that has earned him the nickname of “Gamushin” among his friends. If it’s to slaughter his opponents, he’s willing to get injured, truly a great swordsman who embodies losing the battle but winning the war. The countless scars carved on his body are proof of it. “They’re wounds I got for the country, these are my pride.”

『Dragonflight Blade』Rank: None Type: Anti-Unit Mystic Sword Range: 1 Maximum number of opponents: 1 Ryūhiken. Nagakura Shinpachi’s sure-kill sword. A grand sword that blows away the enemy with an upward slash akin to a dragon raising its tail, and slams them down with an unavoidable, downward slash like wind blowing down the mountains, no questions asked. Nagakura Shinpachi’s true worth, comparable to Okita’s fearless sword and Saitō’s invincible blade. It’s more of a display of Nagakura Shinpachi’s preparedness than a technique for fighting with swords. A domain of madness that ordinary people wouldn’t step into. Breaking in from the indefinite brink of life and death, he leaves the enemy defenseless with a tremendous upward slash, and the sword of gust brought down with his spirits raised to the limit is a literal blasting sword accompanied by an explosion of mana. “Step on the dragon’s tail and you’ll regret it…!”

I’m glad I had nothing to think about when I laughed with them at the dōjō in Edo. I only had to swing my sword for the country, and that was everything for me, that made me happy.
And so, I came into Kyō, and swung this sword. But it’s weird, the more I swung my sword, the more friends went away. I could understand it if it was after crossing swords. But no, that’s not how it went. My friends died for dumb things, and we killed our own friends.
Is this what we wanted to do? What we wanted to do for our country, when we left Edo that day?
“Weren’t we comrades?!”
No matter the reason, I can’t be satisfied with what doesn’t convince me. After all, I abandoned them, and left.
I left the Shinsengumi.
I have no idea of what I should’ve done back then. You can say whatever you want about me. But, I can’t stand those who don’t know a thing and make fools of those guys.
Both me and them gathered under that flag believing in “Sincerity”. That should’ve been the one thing that wasn’t wrong.
That’s right, I’m sick of rambling even if I’m an old fart. How about we swing the sword recklessly one more time, for those guys? Right, Shinpachi?!
