伝説の名君「太陽の君」キエフ大公ウラジーミルに
仕えた勇士たちの中でも、最強の勇者ムーロメツに次ぐ第二の勇士と称される強壮の若武者である。
邪悪な三頭竜ズメイ・ゴルィニシチェを退治して
キエフの姫君を助け出した逸話や、妻ナスターシアに
まつわる逸話などで知られる。
伝承では男性である。
本人も「ニキチッチは男だぞ」と言う。
だが、現界したその姿は―――女性に見える。
そのことを指摘すると、
「まあ、そうだな」
という返事が戻ってくる。

NA Localization:
A famed dragon-slayer, and one of the valiant "Bogatyr" warriors portrayed in the epic songs known as bylina.
Dobrynya Nikitich was one of the greatest Bogatyrs ever to serve the legendary Sun Prince, Grand Prince Vladimir of Kiev. The only one to ever surpass him was Ilya Muromets, the strongest of all the Bogatyrs. He is best known for slaying the evil three-headed dragon Zmei Gorynych to rescue the princess of Kiev, and by legends about his wife Nastasia.
According to the stories in which the character appears, Nikitich is a man, which this Nikitich confirms. However, in this manifestation, she appears decidedly female. Whenever she is asked about this discrepancy, she just shrugs and says, "Yes, that's true."
Fan Translation:
A warrior spoken of in bylina (были́ны), the heroic epic poems of Russia; one amongst the bogatyr (Богатыри).
A dragon slayer.
Even amongst the warriors what served the wise ruler of legend, Vladimir, the Grand Prince of Kiev, 「the Sovereign of the Sun」, he was said to be a mighty young warrior, [unequaled by any].
Known by an anecdote [wherein] he suppressed the wicked three-headed dragon, Zmei Gorynych (Змей Горыныч) and delivered a princess of Kiev; and by anecdotes pertaining to his wife, Nastasia (Настасья).
In legend, a male.
The person themselves has likewise stated 「Nikitich is a man, you know?」
However, the form come to manifestation — looks to be female.

NA Localization:
A young warrior positively brimming with confidence. She is not the most eloquent speaker, but it's clear from talking to her that she's absolutely convinced there are very few things out there she's incapable of doing. Normally, this kind of belief would be walking a thin line between assuredness and reckless overconfidence, but Nikitich is levelheaded enough to admit when there are things beyond her purview.
Nikitich is quick to make decisions and never second-guesses herself. Once she decides to do something, she is on it right away, which isn't great for working in groups. Thus, on the occasion she is operating with a team, she leaves all the decision making up to the king or commander in charge and deliberately avoids doing too much thinking herself (which sometimes makes her seem as if she's spacing out.)
Unsurprisingly, her unshakeable confidence and strong initiative make her well suited to Independent Action; she's well suited for solo adventures and scouting missions.
Fan Translation:
A young warrior unreservedly filled with self-confidence.
Not one to speak overmuch, but a potent conviction that
「there isn't much that I'm incapable of, I presume」
overflows of the entirety of her flesh.
Whereas [this would fall] within the territory of [being distinct from] a proneness to overconfidence by a [very thin line] (紙一重, kami hitotsu, "a single sheet of paper"), unalike to typical overconfidence, she bears alongside that the composure to comprehend that
「I'm incapable of the things I'm incapable of」.

Entirely unwavering.
Being that as of reaching a decision, she immediately moves to take action, she isn't well-suited to acting [as a member of a] group.
Consequently, it would seem that in the circumstance she's [made to] act [as a member of a] group, she entrusts everything to her king or commander, and doesn't much think for herself.
(And if so, she may look to be [in a vacant daze].)
On account that she's filled with self-confidence and outstanding in her decision-making capability, she's as expected of a disposition unto independent action.
It could perhaps be said that she's a Heroic Spirit suited to adventuring alone, and to reconnaissance missions.

寡婦である母の愛のもと、優美な若者に育った。
彼には三つの禁忌があったのだが……
冒険心に駆られた彼はダマスク鋼の武具を持ち出し、
次々と禁忌を破り、さまざまな冒険を繰り広げる。
最終的には三頭竜ズメイ・ゴルィニシチェをなんと
二度にもわたって打ち倒し、二度目の勝利の際には、
キエフ大公の姪であるザバーヴシカ姫を救い出した。

NA Localization:
According to bylina, Dobrynya Nikitich was born to nobility, and grew up into a refined young man under his widowed mother's love. She told him there were three things he was never to do, but driven by his adventurous spirit, he "borrowed" a set of armor and went on to have adventures that involved doing every one of those forbidden things.
Eventually, he managed to triumph over the evil three-headed dragon Zmei Gorynych over the course of two battles. When he won the second one, he also rescued the Grand Prince's niece, Princess Zabava, and was rewarded for his accomplishment with the princess's hand in marriage...even though he did not desire it.
Instead, he went on to marry another woman named Nastasia Mikulishna, the daughter of the giant Mikula Selyaninovich, and a legendary warrior in her own right. She is also known in another legend as Nastasia Nikulishna, where she waits many years for her husband's return.
In the Mikulishna legend, it's said that Nikitich and Nastasia do battle after Nikitich defeats Zmei Gorynych, only for Nastasia to win and shut Nikitich away in her pouch, after which they are married.

Per the bylina —
Born unto a noble house, Dobrynya Nikitich was in the love of his widowed mother nurtured as a graceful youth.
Though he was [imposed] with three prohibitions ...
Spurred on by his heart for adventure did he take forth armaments of Damascus steel, breaking his prohibitions one by one — [letting] that assorted adventures so unfolded.
Ultimately, he somehow twice defeated the three-headed dragon Zmei Gorynych, and in the circumstance of his second victory delivered to safety the niece of the Grand Prince of Kiev, Princess Zabavushka (ザバーヴシカ, zabāvushika).
Thereon, as a reward for suppression of the dragon did he take the princess as his bride —
[or rather], Dobrynya Nikitich wasn't granted this desire.
The name of the woman who came to be his mate was Nastasia.
[This was] the daughter of the Russian hero, the giant Mikula Seryaninovich, 「Nastasia Mikulishna」— also said to be 「Nastasia Nikulichna」, the young wife known in legend to have persisted in devotedly awaiting her husband's return.
Per an anecdote in the Mikulishna version, [Dobrynya Nikitich] did subsequent his battle with the three-headed dragon Zmei Gorynych engage in battle with the female giant and heroine Nastasia. Suffering defeat, [he was placed thereon] within her pouch.
Thereafter was he married with Nastasia.

その場合、若々しく礼儀正しき夫ニキチッチが現界してモテるのをナスターシアが案じたか、カルデア召喚式の側に何らかのトラブルがあったのか……

いずれも一定の説得力を有するが、真偽は不明。
少なくとも、英霊ドブルイニャ・ニキチッチは、
竜殺しの英雄ドブルイニャ・ニキチッチその人として
振る舞っている。

NA Localization:
In the legends, Nikitich is a man, not a woman. So then, why did she materialize as a female Rider? Nikitich herself refuses to say, but a certain Chaldean staff member came up with three possible hypotheses.
First, it may just be that Nikitich's real life differs from her legends, much like Altria is known as Arthur Pendragon. Clean and simple.
Second, it may be that a malicious curse from Zmei Gorynych, the evil dragon she uses in her Noble Phantasm, is distorting her Spirit Origin. Definitely plausible.
And third, it may be that the Nikitich who was summoned is not actually the Nikitich of legend, but his wife, Nastasia (for the purposes of this game, we'll say she possesses traits from both her Mikulishna and Nikulishna incarnations) who is disguising her True Name by pretending to be her husband. We can imagine any number of reasons as to why this hypothesis might be true. For example, Nastasia might have worried that her young and courteous husband would be hugely popular with other women were he to materialize, or it could be a simple case of Chaldea's summoning system malfunctioning in some way.
While each hypothesis has some degree of possibility, there is no way to tell which, if any, may be true. All we can say for sure is that, as a Heroic Spirit, Dobrynya Nikitich acts exactly as one would expect from Dobrynya Nikitich, the dragon-slayer.
Fan Translation:
The Nikitich of legend was not a female.
He was male.
However, why is it that the manifested Rider, Dobrynya Nikitich, is female?
The individual herself is silent [upon the subject].
Here, a certain staff member of Chaldea put forth three hypotheses.
The 1st hypothesis is, alike to [the circumstance of] the Heroic Spirit Artoria, who was known in the capacity of the King of Knights, Arthur Pendragon, it's a matter that legend became as something distinct from the reality of the past. It's simple and clear.
The 2nd hypothesis is, perhaps it's a matter that the uncontainable malignance (悪性, akusei, lit. "evil nature") of the wicked dragonkind (竜種, ryū-shu, lit."dragon breed") Zmei Gorynych — consigned to the form of a Noble Phantasm — has in the form of a Curse (呪詛, jyuso) distorted the Saint Graph [of Dobrynya Nikitich].
Such a thing is conceivable.
The 3rd hypothesis is, it's a matter that she isn't Nikitich himself, but his wife Nastasia (in the present work, the characteristics of both Mikulishna and Nikulichna would be treated as something extant), manifested in a state in which her True Name is concealed.
In such a circumstance, is it perhaps the case that Nastasia is inquiring unto the popularity of her young and courteous husband as of the present world; or that some manner of trouble occurred on the side of Chaldea's summoning protocol ... ?
A variety of reasons were considered.
Each [hypothesis] carries a certain amount of persuasiveness, but their veracity is unclear.
At the very least, the Heroic Spirit Dobrynya Nikitich conducts herself in the capacity of the dragon-slaying hero Dobrynya Nikitich.

The Evil Dragon Breathes Sin.
Nikitich's first Noble Phantasm. Nikitich summons Zmei Gorynych, the legendary evil three-headed dragon, and has it incinerate her foes with flame from all three of its heads.
If that weren't enough, Nikitich herself then swoops in while her foes are still reeling from the dragon's attack to finish them off with her steel. Even if an enemy is able to withstand three full torrents of dragon's breath, there are few who can also withstand a finishing blow from such an incredibly heavy weapon.

Why did a Heroic Spirit materialize there? Was it the Counter Force at work? A kind of miracle? Some sort of summoning ritual akin to a Holy Grail War?
We may never know the truth since she refuses to speak on the subject, but we do know that this Heroic Spirit who calls herself "Dobrynya Nikitich" may have visited the site of the Tunguska event shortly after it occurred in 1908.
Furthermore, this Heroic Spirit also claims to have been the one to name the Beast that had just formed at that site.
The name she chose? Yaskaya.
If this story is true, that would mean that Tamamo Vitch Koyanskaya, the nine-tailed Evil of Humanity who resembles Fair-faced Golden Fox, owes the "Koyanskaya" part of her name to this very Heroic Spirit.

Now that Nikitich has been summoned to Chaldea, she's taken a keen interest in Koyanskaya, and would like to befriend her if possible...

In any case, though on account that the person herself won't speak [upon the matter], the truth isn't clear, there exists the possibility that Dobrynya Nikitich — or this Heroic Spirit assuming the name of Dobrynya Nikitich — did immediately subsequent the great explosion of Tunguska in the year 1908 visit the site.
There, it's said that unto the neonate Beast only just come to establishment in the capacity of an organism, this Heroic Spirit did bestow a name.
The name was Yaskaya (ヤースカヤ, yāsukaya).
If this claim be as truth, it would perhaps imply that it's this Heroic Spirit what was the parent who bestowed to Tamamovich Koyanskaya, come unto a form resembling the Konjiki Hakumen (金色白面, "gold-colored white face"), the Evil of Man borne of nine tales ... the part of her name what is as 「Koyanskaya」.
