Last week, I learned of the connection between Murasaki Shikibu and Sei Shonagon.

Today I had the vague idea of looking up Yang Guifei in Wikipedia, but it seems that is no longer necessary, since I decided to start reading Genji Monogatari during breakfast. Yang Guifei is explained on the very first page:

It's not just Murasaki and Sei being rivals, but they are literlaly portrayed as polar oposites, edgy and dark, colorful and qell, you know, genkigirl thing.

But it doeant just end there, the stories they wrote were like that as well.
